Marshmallow, DOZE , Android DOZE

Marshmallow DOZE feature : What is this !!!  Every major Android version brings lots of good stuff ( Let me focus only on positive energies in this article -;) ) and this time in Marshmallow DOZE feature. Google finally serious about battery performance.   DOZE = Saving your device battery performance when device is not active or in other words when it meets certain criteria.  Is this the first we have feature like this in Android phones ? Nope not at all, almost every OEM spent lots of time and resources improving battery performance.  Sony Mobile XPERIA : "Stamina Mode" has been around for couple of years and i think they need to retire that feature as DOZE and Stamina Mode conflicts and achieves similar goals.  This frustrates OEMs given they spend time and resource and google delivers it later stage of the game.  In a nutshell,  Android M includes new functions, Doze and App Standby, to improve battery life. What...

Useful Android Performance / Stability debugging info  1. ANR Waiting times: Performing heavy I/O , Network access or orher heavy operations on UI thread ?? A BIG NO NO ..you are inviting ANR.   No response to an input event (such as key press or screen touch events) within 5 seconds. A  BroadcastReceiver  hasn't finished executing within 10 seconds.

Andoird Key codes , adb keyevent

Useful Android Keyevents inputs: Some time it is extremely useful to send keyevent via adb for automation and other purposes. #adb shell  #input usage: input [text|keyevent] input text input keyevent adb shell input text "HELLO" LIST OF KEY CODES:  1 --> "KEYCODE_MENU" 3 --> "KEYCODE_HOME" 4 --> "KEYCODE_BACK" 19 --> "KEYCODE_DPAD_UP" 20 --> "KEYCODE_DPAD_DOWN" 21 --> "KEYCODE_DPAD_LEFT" 22 --> "KEYCODE_DPAD_RIGHT" 23 --> "KEYCODE_DPAD_CENTER" 24 --> "KEYCODE_VOLUME_UP" 25 --> "KEYCODE_VOLUME_DOWN" 26 --> "KEYCODE_POWER" 27 --> "KEYCODE_CAMERA" 28 --> "KEYCODE_CLEAR" 55 --> "KEYCODE_COMMA" 56 --> "KEYCODE_PERIOD" 57 --> "KEYCODE_ALT_LEFT" 58 --> "KEYCODE_ALT_RIGHT" 59 --> "KEYCODE_SHIFT_LEFT" 60...

Android Bluedroid debugging

Android Bluedroid Debugging  i.e New BT Stack from Android Community: Wow ... its been more than 2 years i updated my blog ... Am i too lazy or too busy or combination of both. Combination of both -:).  Anyways today i see a need to update my blog with some important info regarding Bluedroid debugging. Bluedroid is the latest and greatest Bluetooth stack from Android developed by Google & Broadcom jointly. So obviously Google does not have interest or resources to maintain two stacks hence they are going to drop famous BlueZ stack for good reasons.  BlueZ stack comes with lot of good tools like hcidump for debugging and i see all those tools no more work starting with Android JB MR2 a.k.a 4.3 which has Bluedroid integrated full-fledged.  So Bluedroid got to have new tools or some tools to debug but as usual Google is very poor at documenting the things and they leave finding puzzles to developers out there. SO today's quest is fining the debugging tools ...

Where is my default Android Wallpaper ?????

Its been long long time since i updated my blog ... pretty busy with my companies  latest and greatest Android gaming device development ( Yup thats true .. XPERIA PLAY ....    http://www.sonyericsson.com/mwcnews/xperia_play/   ) ... well enough of PRing my SEMC  product :D.  Does anyone know where the wallpapers are located... directory?  This is the question i have seen in many websites and long list of threads did not yield any good info .. i decided to take a plunge and see where exactly it was hiding .... well it is not big of deal once you know the location. 1. Wallpapers you see and pick are usually bundled with Launcher application and default wallpaper may or may not be part of it.  2. If default wallpaper is not part of Launcher app resources, where is it hiding ??  Answer is,  System picks it up from following location  platform sourcecode -   /system/frameworks/base/core/res/res/drawable/defau...

Sync Outlook Calendar on Android Phone !!!!

I am back again this time with something interesting and useful ( hopefully ) .... As you know i switched my loyalties to Android OS ( I am forced :( .... sorry Windows Mobile ), i strted using Android Phone as my hip phone and in no time i fell in love with this OS. I started using NexusOne with intention not to like it and find execuses to hate it ( Sorry i am still Windwos Mobile hangover so i wanted to prove that Android is just hype .... what ??? Am i crazy ???). Well .... I love Linux / Embedded Linux ( I spent little amount of time writing serial port for Linux back in 2001 but that was long ago and beginning of 2004 when i started testing Win Mo devices and it was one of the leading Platform for Smartphones ) but i middle layer is crappy and disorganized from various vendirs and give little scope for developer so NONE of the Embedded Linux kernal based phones made BIG impact on the market. But that is history, eversince Google acquired Android ( Company behind making Andr...

Windows Mobile 6.5 – What's new for developers ?

Hello Folks .... i am back with new article. As title suggest its about Windows Mobile 6.5 and what's in it for developers ? As you are already aware there was lot of buzz about Windows Mobile 6.5 look & feel and its hone comb UI design. although i am not excited about new look & feel ( Can't stop comparing WM with iPhone :) ) but it has its own improvements and i am not going to talk about them.  I am going to talk about about what is new for developers.  Cloud computing is Industry's BUZZ word and it is the main addition to Windows Mobile development. Having said that, it is not new thing but Microsoft have added "Windows Mobile Widget" to IDE. That makes developer life easy while developing Web based application / cloud computing application. until today developers have basically two options to create applications for Windows Phones: a)       Native Code (primarily in C/C++) b)       Managed code (using the .net co...
